Germany: Bad Harzburg or Braunschweig?
While basing in Goslar next month, friend and I would like to visit a day spa for massage/manicure.
Between Braunschweig and Bad Harzburg, which do you consider the nicer town, considering that we will look about for a short while, following a relaxing spa treatment (no sauna for either of us)?

Not quite sure what you are asking about, spas or the places themselves? Bad Harzburg is a spa town ... and little else. Braunschweig is ten times its size and despite the Allied terror bombings which devastated the old half-timbered town still with its museums and the spared/reconstructed traditional islands a major destination. It's a bit like comparing Death Valley and New York.

sounds like the spa town would be more relaxed setting rather than a fairly large city.

I haven't been to Bad Harzburg but I know Braunschweig a bit, and it is less charming - not a spa-type of destination, but a bigger city which has the department stores and shopping district to serve that whole area. But the art gallery there is very good with world-class Baroque art. Instead I might visit Wolfenbüttel to see the multimillion dollar copy of the Evangeliar of Henry the Lion and the libraries there, or visit the castle. It is small but interesting. But no spas, I don't think. Goslar also a must-see.

I am SO looking forward to this trip! The Harz is an area new to me, AND its been 5 years or so since Germany (Switzerland the last few years)
We have apartments in Goslar (7 nights), and later Bacharach (4 nights), the second area I know well.
Less than 4 weeks to go!

Hope you like Bad Harzburg, the Harz is wonderful.
