Gent Sint Pieters to Gravensteen
Does anyone know how to get from Gent Sint Pieters train station to Gravensteen. I understand you can take tram 1, 10, 11 or 12 to get to Korenmarkt but I wonder if one of these continues on to Gravensteen so we don't have to walk. We will be doing the City Walk later in the day and don't want to be worn out

The info by tjenneke is NOT correct.
The Gravensteen is actually one stop further than the Korenmarkt, when coming from the Station (talking about trams 1,10,11 and 12 now). I think one of these trams has Korenmarkt as the final stop (though I can't really recall which one), so you'd have to walk another 200m or so to get to the Gravensteen, but the others just have the stop right in front of the castle. I think there's a tram 13 as well that goes in the same direction. Anyway, anything starting with 1 is good
However, tram 40 and 42 take a different tour from the station to the Korenmarkt, and I'm not quite sure if those pass by the Gravensteen as well.

Thank you for the information. I was having a hard time figuring what the route would be if the tram stopped at the Gravenstten prior to the Korenmarket. Does anyone have suggestions on how long it might take us to see Gravensteen, St. Bavo's Cathedral and the Belfry? Also, any great places to pick up picnic food?
Thanks so much.

Wow, it's been ages since I actually paid a visit to those places. I'd say 1 hour for the Gravensteen and the Cathedral (if you pay for the audio guide for the Mystic Lamb and listen to all of it at least) and half an hour for the Belfry. Having a walk around the center at ease would take another 2 hours. There's only one supermarket which is really central, and that's the "Contact GB" in the Hoogstraat. You might find other little shops around, but they'll be much more expensive. If you want some wonderful bread for your picknick, go to Bloch, on the corner of Veldstraat and Volderstraat. Otherwise have lunch as most Belgians do: buy a sandwich or 'belegd broodje': about 30 cm of French bread with meat/cheese/whatever and vegetables and if the weather is nice, there's no better place to eat it than sitting on the borders of the Leie at the Graslei. Enjoy!

Hi Stardust, Thank you for the time estimates. Sounds like we will be able to see everything leisurely. Where can you buy a belegd broodje? Are there stands or carts? That's exactly what we want and it would be great to sit and enjoy by the Graslei.

You can find sandwiches everywhere, mostly in bakeries and special sandwich-shops. At least in the center there's a Panos (chain) bakery at the Lange Munt and a Foodmakers on the Korenmarkt. There are especially lots of sandwich places in the student area (Sint-Pietersplein, Vooruit). They also have a great selection at the 'Aula' butchery in the Voldersstraat.
