Geneva - Solo

I'm traveling to Geneva for a conference in early May, and would like to arrive a few days early and stay near Lac Leman. Any suggestions on what to see and do in just a few days, or where to stay on/near the Lake?

Thanks so much. Any/all suggestions welcome!

Topping and will suggest a few places:

Vevey, Morges, Lausanne; some people also like Cully. Montreux and the Castle Chillon. All of these are on the shores of Lac Leman and reachable by rail or even lake steamer. Of those, Cully might be the more difficult to get to by rail than the others.

I am certain others will have additional recommendations. It would be HELPFUL if we knew what your particular interests are.

I *highly* recommend Vevey or Montreux. Wonderful towns to visit. They are next to each other right on the lake about 1 hour train ride from Geneva. Extremely easy for solo travel.

Put "Montreux" in the Seach box. The top two threads that pop up are about reasonably priced hotels in Vevey and Montreux from earlier this week.

I suggest staying near or in Vevy as well. Montreux was a bit busy for my tastes, but what do you enjoy? I loved the wine trail over there. You can easily travel by train or bus to the many small villages and to places such as Chillon. One thing we enjoyed was taking a train to Bulle and hiking to Gruyeres. Of course, if you're going solo you may want to take the bus to Gruyeres. Incredible place, don't miss the castle and don't miss Chillon either!

I also prefer Vevey of the two. Montreux has a bit more touristy and international feel to it. Vevey is very "Swiss" and a more normal town.

Another vote for Vevey. Very Swiss in a very French way. Not touristy - friendly people - lovely views.

dcsolo- Just ask if you have any specific questions. I've spent quite a bit of time in the area and am happy to help if I can.

Thanks gang! Someone asked for specific interests. I would be perfectly happy on the lake - either boating or shore. Any suggestions for places to relax?

Vevey or Montreux... hey i know i'm repeating myself(!) but they fit the request for being on the lake and possibilities for a boat ride.

Hi dcsolo,

Though you still don't know where you'll be going, I thought I would post these links of Montreux & activities from Montreux. At least you'll kind of know what we're talking about.

Come back with specific questions, and we can be more help.

If you like exploring little lakeside villages, then do use the local train to visit Lutry, Cully, and St. Saphorin. J.
