Is anyone aware of a nice hotel near the Gare de Nord station? We will be departing on the Eurostar and would like to be fairly close to the station on our last night in Paris. Thank you.

I personally would not stay near Gare du Nord simply to be convenient to the Eurostar. I'd stay in a nicer area nearer the main attractions -- anywhere will be w/i a few minutes of the station by taxi or Metro.

I stayed at the Hotel Saint Quentin many, many moons ago. Just for one night since I, too, had a very early train to catch from Gare du Nord. The area around is rough but the hotel was convenient, reasonable and had a good breakfast. I would stay there again under the circumstances.

yes, the Terminus Nord is pretty nice from what I've heard (haven't stayed there) and is about right in front of it. It is a Libertel and they are pretty good from my experience at others. You should be able to find it on their web site www.libertel-hotels.com

It's not super cheap, though -- if you want something cheap, you'd best state your budget. It's cheaper than such a hotel would be elsewhere.

i have been quoted a special rate for three nights at terminus libertel gare de nord.. comes out to 90 euros/night including breakfast for two and tax!(book three nights,but only pay two at 135)

i will be with my mother and since we will be taking the hop on off bus, and busses.. not metros ( she has difficulty walking) and basically seeing the things from the "outside"..
is this hotel a bad choice?

i have stayed in the latin quarter before, and luxembourg gardens. however,we are arriving on the eurostar and this SEEMS like a good price that can´t be equalled by others of lower quality.

any opinions?

we will not be out late at night nor wandering around much, but i certainly don´t want to fear for our return on buses to the front of the station/hotel area.

The Terminus is now a Mercure.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn Republique and I highly recommend it. It's a 5 min. taxi ride to Gare de Nord (or you could take the Metro, straight shot to the hotel). It's a beautiful hotel. It's easy to book too as you can do it via H.I. website.

The area around GdN gets a lot of bad press because it does have some seedy buildings and denizens thereabouts, but as several folks have mentioned it is quite convenient if using the train in or out of town, and is not really unsafe - just not as attractive as some other parts of town. A one night stay on the eve of departure makes great sense, and I have done it a few times. There are a number of smaller hotels right nearby, usually 2 or 3 star. The Holiday Inn Republique, mentioned above, is a good property, nicely located and while a bit further than the hotels right across the street from GdN it is only a brief taxi ride. If you are not already booked elsewhere you might even consider the HI Republique for the whole trip. There is a mero stop literally outside the hotel with convenient connections.

i admit the attraction to this hotel is the price, and convenience when we get off train.
and it SEEMS to have nice rooms. we are leaving from orly so that doesn´t add anything.

i understand the hop on/off bus stops at g. de nord.

the common areas are quite nice ( supposedly) and i can´t seem to find anything in this price range that seems as nice.

is location everything when we will be on buses or at a restaurant or taking a cab back at night?

all other hotels i would even think of are about 120 euros and more with breakfast and taxes, and fewer stars and an obligatory taxi ride from gare de nord on arrival. (the holiday inn rep. is 147 euros).

is this not as great a bargain as i see it?

I often stay at the Albert 1er (Premier) just opposite the gare du nord. It's now part of the Best western chain and is clean and comfortable. Having said that it isn't that cheap (I think the rack rate is around &euro;80 a night) and unless proximity to the station is vital you could stay somewhere nicer for that (or a little bit more).

The Gare du Nord area is a bit rough, especially down the backstreets, but I feel safe there, but I am a fairly burly single bloke. The route from the GdN to the main hotel's should be perfectly safe though (and it's flat)
