Fuerteventura

We are planning on going to Fuerteventura for a short break next March. We don't know whether to stay in Correlejo or Caleta de Fuste.
We like to stay in a quiet place with the option of bars, restaurants and night life nearby.Any suggestions? Thanks

I prefer Corralejo to Caleta de Fueste - it's a nice laid back town, pleasant beach. Personally I find Caleta de Fueste a bit tacky.

You didn't mention budget - last year I stayed at the then Kempinski Bahia Real (5 star) and really enjoyed it. It's now the Atlantis Bahia Real but should still be a very nice hotel. Far enough out of town to be quiet, right on its own stretch of lovely beach, but quite pricey.

At the complete opposite end of the scale, the previous time I went there we stayed in self catering low-rise apartments called La Concha, really pretty places with the apartments built on 2 courtyards around 2 pools so that each apartment had its own poolside balcony. Very basic (2 star) and not expensive at all but really pleasant. To be honest next time I'd probably go back there, it was fantastic value for money and had real charm.

Lots of nice restaurants in Corralejo - great seafood and good Argentinian beef. Had the best Chateaubriand of my life there.

Hope you enjoy, whatever you decide

Jane

Thanks for that Jane. Correlejo it is then. We will check out the prices of both places you mentioned. We will hire a car, so will see rest of the island.Seafood restaurants are my favourite and hubby likes a good steak. So, sounds good to me. Thanks again.

I hate to disagree but we much preferred Caleta de Fuste and didn't think much of what we saw of Corralejo - maybe we missed the best bits. There seemed to be a huge amount of development on the outskirts of Corralejo (admittedly it is 6 years ago since we went). Caleta also has some very good restaurants and is more central for exploring the island. We hired a car and visited some of the more remote parts of the island, some fantastic beaches, the traditional town of Betancuria and the cactus garden is also worth a visit.

Both places are more or less artificial resorts with no real "old town center" or similar.
Both have all kinds of accomodations, and the typical range of restaurants, pubs, and bars catering for the British, German, and Scandinavian crowds.
Caleta de Fuste is more centrally located to explore the island, while Corralejo has the advantage of sitting on the northern tip of Fuerteventura, which will make a day trip to neighboring Lanzarote (with its impressive volcanoes and lunar landscape) very easy.
