Anyone been to Ile de Re lately?

Leaving for Ile de Re in a few weeks and staying in Saint Martin. We will be there for just 4 1/2 days and will not have a car. Does anyone have any favorite restaurants on the island or shopping areas that you got a great souvenir? Thanks for any tips!

What are you going to do for 4½ days? Saint Martin is a small town, and the largest on the island.

Rent bikes, eat, shop, beachcomb, etc.?Make that 3 1/2 days-leave on a Friday on Flybe out of Southampton UK and return on Tuesday.
There doesn't seem to be much information in any guidebook but have found a few websites. It seems like alot of French go there so was wondering if anyone had anything to share about the island.

I was there at this time of year, two summers ago. Probably doesn't count as recently, but this may be all the feedback you will get.

I thought the Ile was charming. We just picked an attractive restaurant and had a very good lunch. Salt is the major souvenir, and was my reason for going there. Fleur de Sel from Ile de Re is considered one of the very best salts in the world.

Biking, shopping, eating, sunning, beach.... all sounds great to me. I would go again if I had the chance. Oh, lots of bakeries.
