From Rome city center to Civitavecchia by train
We are going to get a cruise in October from Civitavecchia, and I would like
to know How is the trasportation by train? Is the train station close to the city center?
Do we need reservations? We have two suitcases, is the train station in Civitavecchia
very far from the port?
Any help would be much appreciated.
THANK YOU (We are seniors in a good physical shape...)

Most of the service Rome-Civitavecchia is on regional rail timings. Those trips take about an hour and basically the seats are in second Class..no need to reserve these.
The train station in Civitavecchia is located about a ten-minute walk (all flat and paved) to the port entrance and your cruise ship will almost undoubtedly be docked further away.
You might consider getting a taxi from the Civitavecchia station all the way to your ship; some cruise lines may run a free shuttle from dockside to the entrance and back.

Dukey has given you a good summary. It's quite easy and folks do this everyday. I've taken the train to Civitavecchia perhaps 20 times. There are often 1-2 regional trains per hour. And about every 2 hours there is an IC/IC Plus train to Civitavecchia from Termini. This link may help. Its actually written for folks coming into the city (and returning to their ship on the same day) but it can help you as it has many pictures: http://www.roninrome.com/2009/02/28/...for-the-day-2/
Do note that MOST of the Regional trains to Civitavecchia arrive/depart from tracks 26-29. These are the satellite tracks out on the far end of the station. So be prepared to WALK about 10 minutes from the main area of the station to your train departing from Termini if it's on one of these "satellite" platforms. This link may help as I think it has a map of the station: http://www.roninrome.com/2009/02/27/...oma-termini-2/
