From Prague - one day to Cesky Krumlov
The tour books differ. Is it a 2 or 3 hour drive to Cesky Krumlov from Bartolomejska Street, Prague? Does a one day trip make sense? Is this area a true DON'T MISS? Can anyone recommend a bus tour or a private guide? Thank you!!
What will we see if we take the long trip to Terezin Memorial? Worth a day?
Many thanks!!!

It depends on your itinerary and you own travel style, I"d say. I did a one-day tour and it made perfect sense for me. I had no intention whatsoever of staying in CK as part of my trip nor spending the time and trouble to go there and change hotels when I could do a relaxing and convenient day tour by bus which was very cheap for what you got. And the guide was excellent, and we got to see some other church on the way that I would not have seen otherwise.
Others talk about how "magical" this town is in the evening when so many tourists are there, etc. I don't care about magic or staying in small towns that much myself. YMMV But it absolutely did not fit into my itinerary to do anything but a day trip, so it was do a day trip or never see it.
I was in Prague for about 5 days and always do a day trip when in any city that long, pretty much. I don't consider anything a don't miss, depends on your intinerary and other planned trips and interests. I did really enjoy touring that castle there, though (and our tour had a special guide for our group, also, that was another advantage).
I've used a couple day bus tour companies in Prague, they have several good ones. I used Martin Tours for that one and I've used Prague Sightseeing Tours for Kutna Hora, they were both excellent. The only slight drawback to Martin Tours (when I did it) was that it was a smaller van, maybe only 6-8 people. So the group was small and that was nice but the van wasn't very comfortable. Nothing like the nice bus we had with PST with comfy seats and nice viewing windows. Both had good guides.
YOu can goto CK by train and regular bus, also, your call. When I went, you couldn't go there by train direct, you had to change in Ceske Budejovice and it was more of a nuisance (and the train station is outside town center by the way). I'd probably take the bus if I was going to DIY.
It's about a 2.5 hour drive, split the difference. It's not 2 hours, that's for sure. THe student Agency bus takes 3 hours by schedule.

It's 180 km, so to do it in 2 hours, you'd have to be going 90 km the entire distance, starting in Prague and its suburbs. Not going to happen.
It was nice to get out of Prague and see it, if you have the time, I think it is an enjoyable trip and I do like seeing the countryside in any country.
these are the companies I've used and can recommend

10 hr tour 9 am - 7 pm. 1650 CZK about 63 euro
Martin Tour

1600 euro or 62 euro, same time frame.
If you are interested in those, just compare the schedule, pickup points and itinerary to decide. I think both woudl be fine.
I really really enjoyed a day bus tour to Hluboka and Ceske Budejovice, also, I know Martin Tour does that one also, and maybe PST.
Can't advise you on Terezin as I didn't go there.

Whether Cesky Krumlov is a "must see" depends who you ask. My expectations were so high that I was a bit let down by the town. (In the September I was there, the town was more quiet than magical at night.) It is a nice town, no doubt (I spent three nights there, did day trips to surrounding towns and castles). I guess it depends what else you have on your agenda. It is nice to have an alternative to big, touristy Prague (which I still love) to add to your picture of Czech Republic.

I liked CK very much! I spent a night there. Do make advanced reservations for the baroque theater tour at the castle in advance. One of the very few remaining baroque theaters left in the world. Only a few tours per day with a small group allowed.
Terezin is definitely worth a day trip. A very sobering visit. You can take the public bus there, visit the camp and walk to town to see that, then take the bus back to Prague.
