From Mostar to Dubrovnik
My husband and I are renting a car from Sarajevo airport to Dubrovnik stopping in Mostar for one night along the way. I am Australian and he is Turkish so neither of us need VISAs - however I am wondering if we should anticipate any problems at the border crossing or is it relatively smooth = how long does it take ? Can anyone give me any helpful info/advice on this. Thanks a lot!

We were just there and drove from Mostar to Dubrovnik as part of our trip. Border crossings were simple. Really just a quick glance at our passports and we were waved through. We drove the "back way" (through Trebinje; not along the coast). It was a fascinating drive through a Serbian area with Cyrillic road signs. There was no traffic at all on this road. If you take the coastal route, which I understand to be busier, you may have a longer wait at the border.

On the route we took, there weren't many places to stop. We went that way primarily to visit the Tvrdos monastery and buy some of their wine (www.tvrdos.com). The monastery is on the road right before you get to Trebinje. I don't think that area gets much tourism and the few people we interacted with spoke no English. The monastery is interesting, though, and the monk we saw there was nice and helpful, even with the language barrier. He showed us some relics and helped us pick out wine. Once you leave Trebinje, it's a short and pretty drive to Dubrovnik. By the way, after we visited Dubrovnik we drove up the coast to Dvrenik to catch the Hvar ferry. Because we were already planning to drive along the coast, we chose the back road from Mostar to Dubrovnik. As you can imagine, the coastal road is stunning so you can't go wrong either way.
