From Hallstatt to Salzburg

Hi, I'll be in Hallstatt and from there I would like to go to Salzburg. When I check online, I can find a lot of information on how to get from Salzburg to Hallstatt (Seems very popular) but little information on the other way around.

From what I can find on OBB Travel Portal:

By Train:
1. Take the ferry in Hallstatt to Hallstatt Train Station.
2. Take the train to Attnang Puchheim
3. Change train and stop at Hauptbahnhof (Salzburg’s main train station)

Total Duration: 2hrs 40mins
Total Cost: From 46.80 EUR for 2

They also provide the bus option but it is not that straight forward and I have to change buses many times. Does anyone know if there is a straight bus? Is the train option above the best option? (Unfortunately, I don't think I can shift my itinerary around so I have to make do with getting from Hallstatt to Salzburg and not the other way around.)

Well, yes, it's exactly opposite of the directions from Salzburg to Hallstatt.

It's a very nice, scenic train route. I recommend it.

Or you could go to Bad ISchl from Halstatt(while returning) and come back to Salzburg by bus, it's much cheaper that way, the return journey costs only 33 EU, against 47 EU by train.

I just read from another forum that the ferry service at Hallstatt is closed from 8th - 20th Oct because the railway which is just beside it is under maintenance. I guess I will have to take the bus route. I understand it's cheaper but I also have to change quite a few buses.
