French Independence Day

Hi -
I'm going with a bunch of classmates (group of 3-9) to London this summer, and some of them want to go to Paris one weekend (our weekends are about 3-4 days). The problem is, the best weekend for our schedule is the weekend before July 14th, which is supposed to be the French Independence day. My question is, would this be a good/ bad time to go? The girls are worried about crowding and getting to and from Versailles and whatnot (they want to spend a day in Versailles). They're also worried about seeing the sites and if there'll be too long of lines or anything like that. If any of you know anything about this, that'd be great - I could pass it on to my classmates.
Thanks!

Versailles always has long lines. I've been there on nasty, cold, rainy, winter days and even so, the place was teeming.

I would think it would be great fun to be in France for July 14, but I wouldn't attempt to get in or out of the city on that day. It is a huge day of celebration--best to stay put and enjoy the fun.

I am sorry. I did not realize that she had already written regarding this. I do appreciate your information, and I will try to get in contact with her regarding our similar posts and see if maybe we can limit our posts so that we aren't asking the same questions repeatedly. I am sorry if I wasted anyone's time, and I do appreciate your information, and the clarification - we just knew that it was a French holiday that had something to do with Independence or something like that. Thank you again, and I'm sorry for the inconvenience.
