Possibilities would be free lunchtime concerts and/or outdoor events. There's also the BP big screen that shows opera (but I've just looked it up, and there's nothing in September).

Here's a website I came across that might be useful.

Cheers.

Hi

Street performers: From http://golondon.about.com/od/thingst...ree_London.htm

"The West Piazza of Covent Garden Market has street performers to entertain you every afternoon. Good acts can draw huge crowds and the performers love to get audience members to help them with their act. All performers are licensed and have passed an audition to perform here.

You will find more street performers at the weekend along the South Bank, particularly outside the National Theatre."

The V&A Museum has free concerts on Wednesday nights. The concerts vary--jazz, classical, etc. and they are held in one of the beautiful halls. You can have dinner there also on Wednesday night.

The V&A seems to only be open late on Fridays. Do you have any information on the concerts, we would love to go but the Friday night format seems to be different from what you describe. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong place?

It's some years since I lived in London, but the V&A Wednesday nights used to be just for Friends...?

Just got back from London a few weeks ago. We saved the V&A for Friday night and were quite disappointed. During their late opening, most of the galleries are closed. What we saw was beautiful, but we couldn't see much of it. Take that into consideration as you make our plans.
