Frankfurt and RyanAir

We arrive in Frankfurt on Lufthansa (from the states) in February at noon. There's an incredibly cheap flight to Venice on RyanAir at 14:15. Is it feasible to think we could go through customs, etc. in only 2 1/4 hours? Is anyone familiar enough with the Frankfurt airport to know how far apart the two terminals are?

We're trying to fly to Italy on RyanAir but there are no other convenient connections. They all seem to be really early in the morning or really late at night. Are there any other airlines like RyanAir that we could check?

Thanks.

I have not flown Ryan Air in and out of Frankfurt in the last year, but they used to use Hahn airport, which was roughly 60 miles from Frankfurt. There would be no way to get in Aum Main and get to Hahn in that amount of time.

Just checked their site and they still use Hahn Airport, which is an old US Military base outside of town. Not the same airport you are flying into.

One other thought, I would also check to see which airport they use in Venice if there is more than one. Generally Ryan Air uses alternate airports to keep their costs low, such as Hahn in Frankfurt.

Would not be a good suprise if you showed up in Venice and ended up outside of town with no transportation or a high transfer cost.

Because they use these alternate airports generally, transportation to and from will cost more and could be less convenient.

I would check out Easy Jet also. They are another discount carrier (not quite as cheap as Ryanair, but pretty good) and they tend to fly out of and into each city's main airport. I haven't flown them yet, but plan to use them to fly from London to Barcelona. I've flown Ryanair from London to Dublin and it was fine. Good Luck!

Frankfurt Hahn airport, the Ryanair facility, lies at least 1.5 hours west of Frankfurt am Main airport. A nifty bus shuttles you there - but you'll need a lot more time than you have.

You do have to get to Frankfurt Hahn in order to fly Ryan Air. Like others have responded, it is a little over an hour from one airport to the other. If you're going to be in Frankfurt for awhile, check out the availability of other flights on different days. Ryan Air is ALWAYS cheap, provided you book at least 2 weeks in advance. Also, if you're looking to go to Italy, there are Ryan Air flights into Pisa, which is cute, and they also have a nice train station at the airport there which can take you an hour further to Florence, which is just amazing. Happy travels.

Check out this website. http://www.flybudget.com/

They have lots of options for budget airlines to Venice.

Cheers,

You'll be flying into FRA.
Ryan Air departs from Hahn- which they label "Frankfurt-Hahn" despite the fact that it is nowhere near Frankfurt.

Even though they have that shuttle bus, there's no way to make it in the amount of time you have!

Thanks to all who responded. We would have made a dreadful mistake. I'll check out the other sites. Fodorites to the rescue!
