France Going to the Dogs? Patisseries pour Chiens!
FRANCE GOING TO THE DOGS!
This is old news but intrigued me to as a new site i have to see in Paris, even though i'll have no canines to indulge. The French have long doted on their dogs and it's not unusual to see pooches sitting at cafe tables, getting nibbles to eat, or in the city's many doggie hair salons, but a bakery just for dogs - now that to me is going over the line.
The Nov 2005 News from France newsletter from the French Embassy in the U.S. reports:
"Situated in the 15em arrondisement of Paris, "Mon Bon Chien" recently opened for dog lovers to buy a special treat for their pooches. France's first bakery for dogs was conceived by American Harriet Sternstein, who bakes the doggie biscuits and cakes herself. Flavors include biscotti, peanut butter, garlic-cheese-parsley and carob. Products contain no sugar or salt and only natural ingredients like eggs and milk, thus creating goods that humans can share with their dogs!
As they say in France "Bow Appetit!"

I was just in a wonderful doggie bakery in Mt. Dora, Florida - I thought it was a great idea and loved bringing "cookies" home for my dogs and my daughter's dogs. Now I can bring them something from Paris!!

There's been a "gourmet"dog bakery in Alexandria for years. I used to love to go in there when visiting friends to pick up treats to bring home for my dogs - including packages of dong-bone mix, complete with dog bone shaped cookie cutter. It was one of the few places in the US that I could see people WITH their dogs, because they were allowed in the shop.
And here's another dog oriented shop in the Marais:
Un Chien dan le Marais
35 bis, rue du Roi de Sicile - 4ième
Tel: 01 42 74 30 00
Everything from dog carriers to snacks, the canine couture is the highlight;
Denim coats, colorful pullovers and customized collars and leashes.
