Cheapo airlines have made their impact on European travel for years now...so much that now France has inaugurated its first Low-Fare Airport - one that only handles low-fare carriers such as Ryanair. The MP2 airport (Marseille-Provence airport) lies adjacent to the current Marseille-Provence airport and will initially offer flights to 19 destinations to and from this tourist mecca(Provence) by December.

Remodeling during the past two years from an old freight hall, MP2 will correspondingly be low-fare in operation as well:

basic decoration of terminal
no air-conditioning in this often hot area
and passengers must lug their own luggage between inspection points.

So if heading to Provence or the Riviera MP2 may be in your future.

I assume the French welfare benies make hauling luggage for a living unrewarding.
