MoBay airport

Anybody know about luggage storage at Montego Bay airport? We have a 4 hour layover there and want to sightsee without dragging our luggage with us. Thanks

I know it's a pain, but I would not leave any luggage in the airport. Maybe you can just get a cab and keep it in there while you travel. Don't let your luggage be left there. IMHO

Agree with Paul. The airport is rife with con men, beggars, and most likely, thieves. Seems everyone has a story about needing your help. Lost luggage would certainly ruin the trip.

Do not under any circumstances leave your luggage at this airport! It's one of the worst for higglers and theives!

Wouldn't you be checking your luggage straight through from origin to destination? Or are you talking about carry-on?

Do not leave ANYTHING that is of value to you at the airport. In the short time of check-in and departure someone stole all of my jewelry hidden in a fake shaving cream container with a lock on the suitcase! Live and learn (I was young!)

Besides, you're going to the beach - how many clothes do you really need?
(I say this after being without my luggage for 5 days in the caribbean-thanks to Amer.Airlines) I learned you don't need much!)

The Montego Bay Airport is like a third world country. Do not leave anything there.

Dear Caribbean Specialist:
I'm not sure how it works, but we arrive on Air Jamaica and then 4 hours later take a hopper over to Port Antonio. I wasn't sure if we claimed our baggage after our arrival in MoBay or what. As far as carry ons, they won't be difficult to carry around with us. I SO appreciate your comments!

Hey Caecilia, I'm sorry to hear about the theft of your valuables! And you're right, how much clothing do I need? But we're toting our diving stuff, too, which is a little bulky.
Thanks for your comments.

See if you can check it early. I have done that twice 12/01 and 4/02 with no problem.

Laurie:You'll have to go through customs on arrival, regardless of the fact you're transiting on to Port Antonio. But check your bags in at the transit counter for your Porty flight, check your time before flight and only then go in town. If you don't have a driver or guide, the JUTRA desk at the airport is a reputable source for insured drivers. The Gallery of West Indian Art in downtown MoBay (they're also on-line so you can get a good preview) is about the only destination I can think of -- aside from the Rainbow Souvenir shop out at Ironshore if you want really fresh real Cuban cigars -- to explore during your layover. Have a great trip.

Laurie:

I presume from your recent post re: MoBay layover that you are taking a scheduled AJ Express flight over to Port Antonio.

Have you thought about chartering a flight to Port Antonio instead? The charters fly on demand, so you would not have any layover in MoBay. We use this option to get to Negril (esp. since the roads were so bad). Also, cost is not that much different (at least on the Negril trip).

We use TimAir, and they do fly to PA

I have also heard positive things about
Burl Air. If you are interested in Burl Air, email me and I can see if I can dig up the phone # for you (no burl air website)

Just a thought.

Dear AmyK,

Thanks for the info on Charters. At this point we've pretty much decided we're going to enjoy our time in MoBay and check it and just wait for our AJ xpress to PA. But if we do change our minds, this info is good to have. We still have 2 months to go, though. L
