With an opportunity to visit friends in Europe, I am en route to Paris. I am surprised that it will take almost 10 hours from Atlanta until we are informed by the flight crew that this is because of Eyjafjallajokull, The Volcano still active in Iceland. You've been planning a trip to Europe and are just finding out that airlines are flying circuitous routes to avoid the cloud? Hmmmm.

Gretchen, I am no "Spring Chicken" to air travel but what was surprising was the extent of the re-route. Interestingly, airlines have discovered that those that where in charge of re-routes poorly handled the situation. This has costed the airline industry billions and many passengers unnecessary delays. That was part of my point. I hope your travels are fun and pleasant.
