Four days in Prague

Hi,

Not prepping as much as I normally do, but would love a quick itinerary review for four days in Prague. Will be there next Monday-Wednesday and again on Saturday (flight at 8:30 pm to Paris). Staying at Motel One near Florenc.

Question: How much time do I need to allot at the airport to go to Paris, while checking a bag?

Monday: new town: Wenceslas square; Franciscan garden; state opera (outside); mucha museum, cathedral st. cyril; and old town. Dinner the street burgers and drinks at hemmingway bar and bonvivant ctc. Cafe louvre for dessert

Tuesday: Jewish quarter: Old-new synagogue, museum of decorative arts, Spanish synagogue, maisel synagogue. St. Agnes Convent, river cruise; lunch at sisters; some of prague castle; cafe imperial at 6:45 pm

Wednesday: Prague castle district and end with Sternberg palace and VINOGRAF Senovážné at 8 pm.

Saturday: Little quarter, wallenstein palace, cafe de paris, kampa island and Trade fair palace.

A few questions: How should I split up Prague castle between a full day and part of another? Is there a good way to get from Old Town/my hotel to Prague castle and/or Little quarter on public transport, or should I just walk or Uber? I have noticed trams - do I need a tram pass or something?

Saturday feels like I'm trying to do too much. Can I move anything somewhere else? (Maybe Kampa island on Tuesday, but then that would really just leave me one full day for Prague castle which may not be enough time with so many museums.) Trade fair I want to do Wednesday or Saturday because a new exhibition opens on Wednesday.

Prague is pretty small and walkable. I don't think you need such detailed plans to visit it. In 4 days you should be able to cover the city multiple times. As far as pretty cities go, it is number 2 on my list with Paris number 1. Great beer! Kozel dark is fantastic! Enjoy!

My suggestion: Takes about an hour to get to the airport using public transport, half an hour by car/taxi (maybe 45 mins in traffic). Once at the airport? It's not a huge airport but I'd probably give yourself two hours before your departure time to check your bags, go through customs, security, etc.

Wednesday: Prague castle district and end with Sternberg palace and VINOGRAF Senovážné at 8 pm.

My suggestion: Add Mala Strana ("Little Quarter") to this day - very easy to get to from the Prague Castle area. You'll have time for all the things you have listed here, plus Mala Strana!

Saturday: Little quarter, wallenstein palace, cafe de paris, kampa island and Trade fair palace.

My suggestion: See above - strike "Little Quarter" from this day and move to Wednesday.

A few questions: How should I split up Prague castle between a full day and part of another? Is there a good way to get from Old Town/my hotel to Prague castle and/or Little quarter on public transport, or should I just walk or Uber? I have noticed trams - do I need a tram pass or something?

My suggestion: It's definitely walkable if you're up for it, but will take time. Great walk from Old Town, across Charles Bridge, into Mala Strana and then continue up to the Castle (this is an easier walk backwards if you don't want to go uphill to the castle - walk down from the castle to Mala Strana, then across Charles and back to Old Town). If you want to take public transport from Old Town to the castle though, that's also very easy. You can walk across the Charles Bridge and then hop on tram 22 next to the Malostranska metro stop and take it to the castle stop "Prazsky Hrad". Or you can take the metro from Old Town (Starometska or Mustek, depending on where your hotel is exactly - probably Mustek is closer to you) to Hradcanska metro stop, which is right by the castle!

As for buying tickets, you can buy them at your hotel front desk (maybe) or at most "tabacs" (little convenience stores). Make sure a) you purchase the ticket for the right amount of time and b) that you STAMP the ticket as soon as you get on the metro or tram. No one takes/checks the tickets on the trams on a regular basis, but if a cop gets on and decides to check your tickets, you will get charged a hefty fine for not stamping the ticket. So make sure to do that!

My suggestion: Yeah, I moved Mala Strana to Wednesday!

Very few people are going to want to walk all the way from near Florenc metro to the castle, which is more than 3 km (it is up a hill, also). Maybe if you were staying in Mala Strana or Old Town very near the bridge, but not all the way at Florenc.

Prague has an excellent public transportation system, buses and trams and metro. There is no need to contribute to pollution and traffic congestion by using Uber instead of public transportation (unless disabled or something). You can take tram line 15 over to Malastranska metro area and then tram 22 to the castle top. Tram 15 stops are within an easy walk of that hotel near Namesti Republicky (tram 15 runs down Na Porici before turning on Revolucni to go across the river. That's what I'd do. Or take line B metro from FLorenc to Narodni Trida stop where you can get tram 22.
