Foucault pendulum demonstration at Musee de arts et metier

Hi again,

Is the Foucault pendulum demonstration at the museum given in just French or do they also present in English?

We spend a half day at the museum last year - and really enjoyed it. I don't recall any demonstration of the pendulum. Maybe I didn't pay attention, however. We just watched.

I can't imagine what sort of demonstration there might be.

There is a Foucault pendulum in the Arts-et-Métiers museum and a more impressive one in the Panthéon. They do their pendulum stuff without commentary, as far as I know.

That's what I was going to say, it isn't like a science lesson as I recall. IF they say anything, I think it's only in French though.

I think the one in the Pantheon is the "real" one and the one in the A&M is a copy.

AH okay thanks. Their website states that a demonstration takes places at 12:00PM and 17:00PM so I didn't know whether or not their is any commentary along with it. We saw the one at the Pantheon during our first visit to Paris about a decade ago.

This museum seems very interesting.

The museum is terrific. There are English signs, including one for the pendulum. I also don’t remember any explanation, but generally speaking that sort of thing is usually in the native language. (French, in this case).

I wouldn't make a special trip/detour to see the pendulum, or worry about a demo - just take a peek when you are visiting the museum if you want. There are hundreds all over -- probably some in your home state, or even home town. Heck, there is even one in Antartica . . .

The main focus for our visit would be to visit the interesting exhibits at the museum (a nice break away from the "pure art" for "scientific art"). Since the website advertises twice a day a "demonstration" I was just wondering if there would be any info in English. I would imagine most of the "group visits" would be school kids and therefore any commentary would be in French only but sometimes popular places present things in more than one language. Glad there will be some sign posts with English explanation on some exhibits because our French is rather poor. Some of the nostalgic items probably are self explanatory. Inventions over time right?

You will be very pleased with this museum. Don't miss the Arts-et-Métiers metro station on line 11.

Okay! We are converts to getting around by bus but we'll definitely be using the metro the day we go to Arts et Metiers!

There’s plenty of English signage. It is perhaps one of the best science museums I’ve been too—not the largest, but certainly the most delightful. The pendulum is neat mostly because of its setting, but it’s not, at all, the highlight

This is what we did. Actually, it took us 2 days because early on we discovered we could not visit the Arts & Metiers in a leisurely & enjoyable pace. So we returned a few days later for the museum. The park was quite enjoyable

Maybe you'll have a Vincent Price sighting.

Kerouac--Thanks for the picture. Yes the station is also on my list!

Maitaitom---"His last significant film work was as the inventor in Tim Burton's Edward Scissorhands (1990)". Is he somehow represented at the museum? Haha!
