For lincasanova re Valenica

Hi lincasanova--you gave me great suggestions regarding our drive from Madrid to Valencia next month. Cuenca looks so interesting we decided it would be a good place to stop after an 8 hour plane ride with little to no sleep. My sister and I are visiting my daughter who is studying abroad in Valencia (Florida State Study Center) so we will be looking for things to do in and around Valencia while she is in class. We are staying at the Hotel del Carmen which is just a few blocks from the study center on Calle de Blanquerias. I'm hoping that you can give me a few suggestions about things to do in town as well as some interesting sites to visit that we can reach by car within an hour's drive or so. Thanks so much.

I hope Lincasanova sees this post and is able to provide you with the information you are asking for.

Lincasanova was a tremendous resource to us when we travelled to Valencia in March 2008. Our group (36 students) had a wonderful time, in great part due to the information and support we received.

Lincasanova - if you see this, thanks again for all your good work.

just saw this! have answered on your other post. if you are in hotel el carmen you do NOT want that car if you can get rid of it once in valencia.

if you cannot change your agreement with out adding huge expense to your bill, i suggest driving down to the science center area on the corte inglés side of the riverbed, but across from the science museumpart, not the opera house part, where there is a LOT of free parking. (and who minds seeing this creation over and over?)

then you go down across the surrounding park area and pools and up to take the 95 bus back to the torres de serrano. It stops on the OTHER side of the river bed park.(buy a BONO metro/bus combination ticket so you can all use the same ticket when travelling. gives you one free transfer within 30 minutes, and is quite handy and inexpensive.)

you need to check on the car every once in awhile in case there are street repairs or something happening. but that area is new so that is much less likely than in other parts of town.

if you have any problems here, call me. ask for Kati at the Florida State School and she will give you my number, or call the US Consulate,96 351 6973 and they will, too.

If your daughter was already here last week, and registered to vote at school, tell her she already met me as i was volunteering helping out!

and HI! teachercanada.. it was great meeting you. wish i could have done more.

How funny lincasnova--my daughter has become friends with Kati. She just took her to the underground night clubs a few days ago. It truly is a small world! She's been there two weeks so maybe you have crossed paths. I'll ask. Thanks for the tips. We need the car to get to and from the Madrid airport and because of the minimum rental time required for a one way rental it cost the same to just keep the car. My daughter told me that there is plenty of on street parking around the hotel--is this wise or safe? If not, we'll take it to the lot you suggest.

just be careful what your daughter say is "plenty of parking".
many are in "blue zones" ( 2 hr. max) and MANY of the cars she sees are parked ILLEGALLY, i am sure.

once you are OUT of the downtown area and can get to residential area you will find free on street parking.

another area i suggest is la alameda,( very convenient and easy to find a space at night), any streets juttng off of that or further up at calle alvaro de bazán, bachiller and behind the park Viveros near the valencia club de tenis.

have a great time.

i have only been at FSU for the absentee ballot drive, so unless she was there signing up i have not met her or any of the students. kati is one of my best friends´daughters.
