We ate very well on our trip with no complaints, in every part of Scotland we visited. Two things:

1. (maybe here's a complaint) There was a dearth of salads. There were always vegetables, greens included with an entree, etc, but was there the standards "Salads" menu section that you would find on most US menus? No. If that is a normal selection for you, just be aware.

2. We packed a soft sided cooler bag and packed a lunch everyday so we didn't have to stop and find a place to eat. We also did several hikes, and it helped those days, too. All the bakeries we went into had pre-made sandwiches available, which we had a few times, but mostly we bought loaves of bread, local cheeses, some sort of portable meat (lots of smoked salmon, etc), apples, and strawberries or whatever was being locally picked at the time. I brought several sizes of ziplock bags with us, and we'd ask if we could fill up a small one with ice in the mornings at the B&B before leaving for the day. Worked like a charm.
