fontveille as provence base for 7 nights
Wayne replied in a post re
ourmarin that Fontveille could provide a good base for visitng Provence. If anyone has been there, appreciate comment on whether it would provide sufficient variety of dining options (we prefer dinner in home base)and interesting sights, shops for after-dinner strolling. Thank you.

fontveille is one of our favorites syay overs. We like The Regalido, great food, a wonderful chef/owner,lovely garden/dining terrace and the daughter has a boutique with a tastle collection of things.Convenient too, when invited to dinner at friendd's home, we can buy a bottle of wine there if rushed. It's so close to places to dine(other than the many in Fontveille)like Les Baux and Maussane, St Remy, Paradou(lunch at the bistro but reserve)

My wife and I have used Fontvielle as base and have also stayed at The Regalidio. The food there is great(Michelin *) but the place is expensive. A better value restaurant is La Cuisine au Planet. They make fig tartes to dies for. Lots to and see nearby including: Arles, Les Baux, St. Rémy and the Camargue to the south.

For more info about Provence:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/provence

My wife and I spent a week in Fontveille 20 years ago. It was a perfect location for touring the area if you have a car. I can't speak for now, but then the town was very quiet. I don't recall much in the way of shops for strolling. But it had several good restaurants, and after a long day of touring, it was nice to come back to a quiet town where you can walk everywhere. We could't afford the Regalido, but it looked like a great place for a splurge.

Goog morning lily.
i wanted to add as the previous poster has noted. Most of these villages may only have one shop or maybe two. We stay at inexpensive b&Bs along our way serindipity and book here and there like Fontveille and hopefully this year a night at somewhere else thats noted for it's great food as well as charm. St. Remy is a wonderful town for for shopping/looking.About a mile from town is a B&B 'Mas Shamrock. In Fontveille, in the center is "Mas Ricard"
