Fodors getting boring? Anyone agree?

Hi, I have been a fan of this site for almost two years and up to a few months ago I really enjoyed looking up most of the messages whether they but related to my particular question or not. Recently I find that I have to scroll down to find something interesting. What with people asking how many pairs of shoes to take to Europe, What colour pants and skirt. Come on guys!!! Lets keep this interesting. Right now I am searcing for a 'new' site.<BR>Sorry Fodors. It's not your fault but perhaps there may be someway to sort these messages .Of course every one thinks that his/her question is important but sorting may help.

Anna.<BR>I tend to agree with you, the frivolous is now hiding the meaningful and interesting questions. I also fear that the site is becoming too technical, with long diatribes on how to download, open extra windows etc etc. A week or so ago it was more like a computer advice site, than a travel forum.

Agree with Tony. THE most boring comments are about computer workings. For the first day or two I was interested, and it's good to know people like Paulo are looking out for us but other than that I'd rather not hear about people's little computer achievements.

<BR>Anna,<BR><BR>Please don't dampen others' enthusiasm or curiousity by pooh-poohing their questions. Everyone should have the right to ask what they want. You don't have to read the ones that don't interest you.<BR><BR>Maybe it's boring to you because you've been here a long time. I've been here a week &amp; I find it fascinating.<BR><BR>Respectfully,<BR>Steve

Bravo, Steve----I agree w/you. I saw Anna's sarcastic response to the future honeymooner who asked about the shoes. That's her right. I'm sure she asked because she wanted to know. Perfecting a trip requires a lot of questions, and there are plenty of people who want to help. There are a lot of posts that I find strange---I just ignore them---scrolling isn't that hard!!!

You are right. It has been boring. Thank you for this stirring and exciting thread. This is the most exciting thing that has happened to Fodor's in years. YAWN!

Computer posts were never interesting, just useful. Now they're still not interesting, and no longer useful. It's also amazing how worked up people can get over one person's little observation that the board is boring and our little inane posts agreeing that they're boring because at the moment we have nothing more earthshattering to say.

Anna,<BR>Take a look at http//www.virtualtourist.com - it has a totally different concept but to me it is very interesting.<BR>I found this site when looking for something else because I also find Fodor's often boring.

As Dr. Leo Buscaglia [of public television fundraising fame in the 80s--USA-ers will know who I mean:] "If you are bored you are probably boring as h***."<BR>In other words boredom is YOUR problem, not the rest of the world's. As to what to do about it? Well there's always travel

Yes, S.Fowler, there's always travel. And there are travel forums as well but not to read x times the same questions with the same answers. That is really boring.

For those who think this site is boring please go to another site. There are many of us who love to read and learn about ALL aspects of traveling and this is my favorite site to hear from people who have "been there-done that"!

I thought there was no such thing as a stupid question. If someone doesn't know the answer this is the place to ask. Yes, the questions may become repetitive after you been here awhile, but they seemed brand new and were very helpful when I first found the site.

I keep looking, but I have yet to find a forum that matches this one for variety, interest, and utility. ALWAYS interesting or useful? Of course not! Just more so that other places. <BR> <BR>Ignore the boring threads! There's plenty of new stuff posted all the time. Start an "interesting" thread yourself.

Anna-kudos to you for hanging in for so long!I think that these sort of sites run their course and after a while the questions become repetitive/redundant/tiresome/moronic etc because people are too lazy to do a simple search. The interesting observation is that each website -Madridman,Eurotrip and Fodors-has its own self appointed/annointed leader and followers-almost cult-like and very protective/defensive.My deduction is that there are alot of lonely people looking for a link to someone and the internet rather than a resource has become a substitute for the real world. Watch for the responses to my posting! <BR>I just hop around for about 10 minutes and try to rattle some cages!1

I almost agreed with you Anna but then I realized something about myself. <BR>I found this site in early 1999 while planning a fall trip to Europe. I immediately became addicted. In 2000, I was planning a trip to OZ and NZ for that November. I became homesick for the Europe site because the OZ site gets in a year the traffic this site gets in a day! Now I am a little bored with the site however, I think it is my problem, I am not planning an overseas trip!! Oh I do check in and respond when I feel I can help or am interested in the question. But it is hardly the intense interest I felt when I was planning the trips, or just back from trips. <BR>So if you are having a hard time finding anything interesting, it may be you have lost your interest, not that the site has lost its interesting aspects.

Sweepea, THIS is the kind of post that really saps the energy out of the forum! <BR> <BR>(And Mary Ann's right, it's what you bring to the forum, which will always be more intense if you have just been or are about to go on a trip.)

Amazing! The same folks who are insulted about this thread are the same people who respond to the topics that now dominate this "Forum"(not chat site).I'm always looking for travel advice and interesting stories from people who actually travel not "mothers in prison" stories.Very sad.
