Loverboy - How in the world do you infer my status as lower or middle class? Anyway, it's none of your business. Let's just say that money is not a worry and leave it at that. I am married you know!

Sorry, the painters arrived and I didn't get to finish my reply to Loverboy. I think your moniker is wishful thinking. Anyone so obviously lacking in charm and social skills must have absolutely no luck at all with the ladies! And your "status" is painfully obvious. Try being a bit nicer and someday it may be elevated.

Sorry to barge in here, but I noticed a few people in the DC area and wanted to know if you'd be interested in joining my "DC/MD/VA" fodorite group. We get together once a month at a restaurant or at someone's house and enjoy the afternoon talking about traveling. Not sure if those of you in the DC area will read this, so I will write to each of you. Caio! Monia

I find it interesting that so many of you are saying that you are Upper Class, Middle Class or Upper Middle Class, I thought you didn't have a class system in the USA - anyway, I am from London, England, we do have a class system, and I can assure you if anyone is Upper Class, 1. they wouldn't say so, 2. they only "work" in the family business (Banks etc) and 3. They probably wouldn't bother putting their details on this site. How strange to describe yourselves in this way.

Julie - <BR> <BR>I think the British and US versions of "class" are different. In Britain you are born into a class and there is little chance of escaping that position in life, regardless of how rich or successful you become (you will always be deemed an Eastender, rich one, but still an Eastender). In the US, your class is earned and is more a measure of how hard you have worked to obtain something. <BR> <BR>I am not trying to be judgmental about either definition, just that the definitions differ.

Julie: Maybe a better way to explain the "class" system in the U.S. is to tell you remove the word 'class' and substitute 'income'. In other words, someone who is saying they are 'middle class' is really telling you that their yearly earnings fall in the middle of the what the average American's yearly wage is. Middle class has three ranges--lower middle, middle, and upper middle. (Upper middle income is in the highest part of the average income in the U.S.) The highest 'upper' class means their income is probably in the top 1% of the income scale. <BR> <BR>We use this type of labeling ourselves to explain types of neighborhoods, schools, clothing, etc. That way you understand if the homes, property taxes, whatever, are within your income--that is your ability to afford this level. To tell someone that an area is upper middle class, is to tell them that the homes cost more than average, the property taxes are higher than average, etc. An upper class area in most of the U.S. would be an area where a lot of the homes are considered mansions. (In other areas, they may be small homes but cost as much as a mansion would in another area of the U.S.) <BR> <BR>Anyway, I honestly don't think I have ever met anyone who has told me that they are either 'lower class' or 'upper class'. But most of us make these judgements by what we see as the dollar cost of that person's environment. <BR> <BR>Hope I helped.

Well let me see-I am rich- have a big house and car and two perfect children and a beautiful young wife who is crazy about me.I dislike people talking when I want to talk about myself.I love it when people want to hear what I have to say.And no one else could be half as interesting as myself so why don't we end this pathetic brag site now?

I am in Texas, have been for more than 20 years. My homestate is Florida and I have lots of relatives there (32 first cousins) I am a nurse but I am not doing that right now. I have fallen in love with the Netherlands (perhaps it is because most people there, love cats too) <BR>I like to garden, mainly flowers, and largely roses. I love the ones, that have a good scent! I don't like people who abuse animals, or other humans. I read a lot too. Books on fiction, and reference books on gardening, travel is a love (but what's up with, all the walking you have to do, in order to fly?)

Dear Trying: I think in USA the act of class is in the person's attitude and values more than money, position. <BR>Would a librarian, book store owner, professor, teacher, independent film/doc. maker be of a low class because of their income? I mean intellect should account for a class upgrade. How about policemen, nurses, <BR>healthcare workers, where would they fit, in low class? <BR>I know people from all "classes" here in LA, and some of the most boorish, conceited, ignorant, close minded ones are from both the highest and lowest <BR>"classes".
