fly from Rome to Pescara?

My husband and I are going on a tour of Tuscany in October, and we have extended the tour by one day in order to see my uncle's gravesite in Ortona.
The last day of the tour is from Assisi to Rome. We wondered if it would be easier to drive from Assissi, or return with the tour to Rome then fly to Pescara. I am finding it really difficult to get specific information on the net (I searched rail information but got no specifics as far as time goes.) I would think if Pescara has an airport it would have flights to Rome, but I can't find anything. We would stay overnight in Lanciano, as we have learned that we have a tentative invitation. And we'd have to be back the next day in time for a 6 am flight out from Rome. (ugh) Any suggestions? Renting a car seems scary to us and neither one of us can drive a manual transmission!

Thanks! Judith

Not sure if this is going to work!

sorry, not sure if that's clear...

day 1 - Assisi or Rome to Pescara somehow, travel to Lanciano
day 2 - see gravsite in Ortona, leave to go back to Rome
day 3 - fly out at 6 am for flight back to Canada

I wouldn't fly from Pescara to Rome, even if Pescara has an airport and there is the IT-Ali airline which connects PEscara with Rome Fiumicino. I would opt for a train. From PEscara there are frequent trains to Roma Tiburtina, the trip takes about 4 hours, direct regional trains, per person it costs about 11 euros in 2nd class and 17 euros per person in 1st class.
Also, as you are going to Ortona, you might consider to get a train from there to go to Rome, but you need to change trains in Pescara Porta Nuova. The train trip from Ortona to Pescara is about 15 minutes.

Thank you!!! That's great--we had no idea that Ortona was reachable by train! Is there any way to see a schedule of Rome-Pescara trains somewhere on the net? ie. How many times a day they go? It would be great if we could leave from Rome to Pescara in the late afternoon and then spend the next morning in Ortona, then make our way back to Rome--whether by bus or train. Thank you very much for the input!

Jube, here is some info about some schedules from Roma Tiburtina to Pescara Centrale which I have seen on www. trenitalia.it website

Departure Station : Roma Tiburtina Arrival Station: Pescara Centrale

1.
16:12 from Tiburtina, arriving at 19:34 in Pescara

2.
16:12 from Tiburtina, arriving at 19:32 in Pescara

3.
18:28 from Tiburtina, arriving at 22:16 in Pescara
This is actually the schedule for Sunday, when trains run less frequently. Check out on trenitalia.it website, there is an english menu too. Go on the left side of the screen where it shows "leaving from" and "going to". Just put Roma Tiburtina in the space "leaving from" and Pescara Centrale in "going to", the date that you want, the time frame you prefer and VOILA! you will be able to see the schedules!
