Florence Uffizi and Accademia tickets now available online
The Florence official museum web site has now made tickets available online for the Uffizi and Accademia. It doesn't appear that the other museums are included, but I don't think the lines are long at those museums.

Select either the Uffizi or Accademia and there will be a purchase ticket link in pink. The price appears to be the same as calling. It reverts to Italian during the booking process, but you should be able to figure it out.

Hi
Well, it is a good idea to book in advance. The lines at these museums can be very, very long.
Here is my Florence trip report with pictures, links, mpas etc: http://gardkarlsen.com/florence_italy_travelogue.htm . Maybe other travelers can find some useful info there

Yes, phone reservations always had the 3E fee also.
The biggest difference is by phone you could reserve and not pay until you picked up the tickets. I'm not sure if that's possible online since my Italian isn't all that great. Some people reserve by phone and then never show since they haven't paid.

My memory of the reserving by phone (5 years ago) may be hazy. Couldn't recall a fee for it, but it is quite possible, and I'll take the word of those who've done recent reservations.
As for paying in advance, does the web site ask for a credit card? If so, I guess we can be certain that payment in advance is required.

Hello Kybourbon,
I tried to book the Uffizi and Accademia on line and it was complicated. Some of the time slots were 0 and you cannot book it. Some days were blotted out completely.
So I called the number 39-055-295-883 in Florence, the lady speak English and I have my reservations for two museums booked within five minutes. You are right, she did not charge it on my credit card and told me to pay when I go in May. How nice!
Thanks for the info on Rome and Florence, I read a lot of posts written by you and are very helpful.

Has anyone booked the Uffizi by phone lately? When I dialed the old number (39 055 294 883) I only get computer choices for times and ticket info (no way to get to a human). We have a 9 year old and if I try to book on the website the best I can do is to spend about $60 with all the fees for 3 tix(shades of Ticketmaster)! I mean its supposed to be 7E. I am tempted to just show up when there seems to be lots of availability as shown on the internet (mid-late afternoons- we are going to be there 10-12 June). Any thoughts/other ways?

Did you call during Uffizi open hours on a weekday (not Monday - they are closed) Italy time?
My understanding is when there are certain special exhibits, tickets are higher. There appears to be an exhibit for the Uffizi from May 30 - Sept 30 making the tickets 10€ instead of the normal 6.50€. You also have to pay the 4€ reservation fee making tickets for this summer 14€ (about $20). A 9 year old won't make a difference. Free or reduced prices are for EU citizens. Sometimes when buying in person, you might be able to get the child for free, but don't count on it. When I enter 3 people on the reservations for your dates the cost is a total of 42€ (about $60) so yes, that's accurate. You can save the 4€ per ticket reservation fees by standing in line to purchase. The reason most people want to book in advance for the Uffizi is to avoid the long tickets lines (sometimes as long as 1-2 hours). I have walked up and bought for the Accademia in the afternoon. They had two lines, one for cash (much shorter and faster) and one for credit cards.
You might ask you hotel to make a reservation for you, but f the Uffizi phone lines are now automated, this might not be possible anymore.
