florence to sorrento

hi,

Does anyone have suggestions as to what is the best way to get to Sorrento from Florence. We (family of 4) were thinking of taking the train from Florence to Naples and then take the circumvesuvian train to Sorrento. But I've seen some posts that suggest going to Salerno and then the ferry to Sorrento.

I'd go on the Circumvesuviana from Naples to Sorrento. The Salerno route is better if you're staying in Amalfi or Positano.

I did the Florence to Sorrento trip by train several years ago via Naples. It wasn't bad (kind of long, but not a bad trip). Very easy to figure it all out too. Many more gypsies on the circumvesuvian - it is more like a local metro. Not a problem, just mind your wallet

Hi M,

Train to Salerno and ferry to Sorrento takes somewhat longer, but is more enjoyable.

Hi Meecho - The Salerno route would add 2-3 hrs to your journey time. It's really only a good option for Amalfi or Positano as Jean says, not Sorrento.

Much quicker by Circumvesuviana or hydroil (deps at 09.00 - 11.00 - 13.05 - 15.05 ...) from Naples.

Hope this helps ...

Steve
