Florence Day trips

We are going to Florence in Sept. and are interested in some day trips to the wineries, Siena, San Gimignano, and Lucca. We don't mind small group tours (8-10 people), just not big cattle car tour groups. Does anyone have any tour companies that they would recommend for day trips? Thanks!!

I haven't done any myself, but I've heard CAF tours recommended on this board. However, please don't pass up an afternoon in Fiesole....easily reachable from Florence by cab or bus.

Was there 2 years ago and took a day trip with "grapeadventures" - and it was wonderful. Very small group (actually - that day it was only my mom & I and the driver/tour guide - a wonderful lady named Gill). I can still taste the wine, the olive oil, the food......

3 years ago I took a tour to Siena and San Gimigliano..I dont remenber the name of the company, but it was very pleasant, and the guide was pretty knowledgeable.

You can tour Siena by yourself if you wish. There is an express bus from Florence to Siena just about every hour. The bus station is just behind the train station (careful not to take the milk run). Do not take the train to Siena from as you will arrive on the outskirts of the town. The trip takes just over one hour.
