Florence birthday treat

I'm taking my partner to Florence for their birthday on the 2nd Jan, a miserable time to have a birthday, everyone doesnt want to drink ever again and is dieting frantically.

So I'd like any recommendations of a nice hotel, modern or ott grandiose since theres always new place popping up all the time. Any recommendations of tavernas will be greatly appreciated, we've been to the expensive, starchy places, and frankly I like the real relaxed genuine taverna experience much more.

Thanks for any help, just the pressie to sort out now...Elaine

In that price range I would suggest Hotel Villa Belvedere where we've stayed twice and really love. Check it out at www.villa-belvedere.com.

The Continentale is a gorgeous, modern hotel in Florence. It's part of the Lungarno Hotel group http://www.lungarnohotels.com/ which is owned by the Ferragamo family. If it's not too expensive for your budget, I think this is the most memorable and chic hotel in the city.
