Florence base, day trips?

With Florence as my base, where might I take day trips by train and/or bus? Interesting in wineries etc

Or is there another base that would be a better option with budget hotels?

Would be arriving on June 30 and staying until July 7.

Hi E4me - Day-trips from Florence? So many options ...

Siena
San Gimignano
Pisa
Lucca
Bologna
Cortona
Assisi
Perugia
Orvieto
Arezzo
Chiantishire
Cinque Terre
Rome
Venice

... to name a few

Hope this helps ...

Steve

Also Fiesole, really almost a suburb of Florence, reachable by bus. It is an old Etruscan city and has a Roman theater and the convent of San Francisco
Although Rome and Venice are both do-able in a day from Florence I would not recommend trying to see them this way. Both merit much longer visits.

If you want to visit wineries without a car, I think you should try to find a tour out of florence. (I have never done this but assume there are some options--others may have details)
