The Florence airport is indeed closed. They are re-routing flights to Pisa (and maybe another airport in the area). Depending on the airline, they will either tell you that you are "on your own" to get to your final destination, i.e. Florence, or they may arrange it for you. When my sister arrived last week from the USA, via Frankfurt with Luthansa, she was told she needed to get to Florence on her own. There is a bus, Terravision, that takes you directly into the main train station in Florence or there is a train as well. She took the train because there was a long wait for the bus, and she had to change in Pisa central station.

Thank you. We're flying Lufthansa from Munich, so I guess it's Pisa. Not thrilled that they're not providing transportation to the city.
Actually, I thought the Web site was kind of funny. Wouldn't you think if the airport was closed that the site would be screaming it in bold letters on the home page, instead of having the announcement buried in a press release you have to click on?

I just bought a ticket, flying out of Florence on May 23, on Lufthansa. I was told the Florence airport is supposed to re-open by May 3, but I was cautioned that date may be optimistic. If Florence is not open by May 23, I am on my own to take the train to Pisa for my Lufthansa flight. Keep your fingers crossed!

Hi M,
>If Florence is not open by May 23, I am on my own to take the train to Pisa for my Lufthansa flight. Keep your fingers crossed!<
It's not that hard. There is a train from Florence SMN to Pisa airport - about 1:30 hr.
