Depending on the price and terms of the tickets there may have been no option to sign over the ticket to another airline. Not all tickets are transferable.
But aside from that, you do realize this was one of the worst storms in over 50 years and NO airline was getting passengers to Heathrow Xmas week. We left on Dec 27 (another long story) and we were one of the first flights into LHR from LAX.
And ANZ doesn't;t fly to gatwick or manchester.
If a storm happens next year that closes heathrow and Cameron DOESN'T Send in the army there will be riots
I guess I'm wondering what you thought they could do. Yes it's too bad they told you you could get out but they probably thought they could get you out or that one of their partners might accept a ticket from ANZ. But from my experience getting to LHR on Dec 28 it was still a madhouse and some people were still stranded.
The part I would take issue with would be, if they offered you a refund and are now saying it has to be a credit. I don't know what the cc guidelines are but I think it's 60 days - I would contest the charge and submit all info in WRITING. Most airlines were giving waivers for those travel days and were refunding $$

THE POINT IS ANZ NEVER TOLD ANY PASSENGER WHEN THEY COULD FLY OUT OF LAX!
How were they supposed to know when Heathrow would open, how many people would cancel etc etc etc. Severeal other European airports were also shut. Friends in Montreal flying to London for Christmas were due in on Dec 20th. At first told first flight out they could get on would be the 29th, then they were able to get out on the 22nd....
At least you werne't stuck sleeping on the floor at Heathrow for several days.
