You guys are all great! Thanks so much for everyone's input with respect to this. Although guide books go only so far with respect to recommending places, I really prefer to find out from those in the know!
Cheers!

A previous post mentioned Super Fish, they have a number of restraunts in greater london and are very good.

Try their large cod known as Moby Dick and chips real ones made of potatoes fried in beef driping.

Their prices are very good not a typical tourist rip off.

Hey Guys,

OK a few facts about fish and chips from me.

The very best shops don't use fresh fish they use frozen at sea, block cod.

Chips should be prepped fresh every day- not par fried to pre-prepped.

Good fish and chip shops of a consitently high standard are very hard to find- but there are a couple of places which can help- have a look at:

http://www.seafish.org/plate/award.asp

select london and you will get a few places up which will be of a consistently high quality as they all hold the seafish quality award. This awar is NOT easy to get or keep hold of- all 3 of my shops hold it, but every year i have at least 2 full day, unannounced, inspections. It can be very nerve-wracking. On the same site is the list of the fish and chip shop of the year which contains a couple from London which would undoubtedly be worth finding.
