First Timer to London-Stay help!

I will be traveling to London at the end of June and I was wondering what the best neighborhoods might be to stay in as far as being in the range of things. Does anyone also have any ideas for cheaper hotel suggestions? I did't realize how expensive some of them were. Thank you.

It would be helpful if you can give us your budget range. I'm not sure what you mean by "in the range of things". If you choose somewhere close to a tube station, you can get around pretty easily. No single neighbourhood is close to all the tourist attractions.
Having said that, there are many budget B&B's and hotels near Victoria, Paddington/Baker St, Bayswater, Earl's Court etc.

Thanks. I would like a decent area, yes near a tube station. I would only like to spend 200 dollars a night. I am sure that is impossible from what I am finding.

Standard hotels are expensive in London, but there are lots of smaller hotels which might fit you. These are often converted from old Victorian era townhouses, and may have awkward tiny bathrooms and no elevators, but on the other hand, often include a substantial breakfast. I kind of like the character of these places, but they are not for everyone. A good example would be the string of hotels along Cartwright Gardens, near Russell Square tube station. You could try a Google search on "cartwright gardens hotel london"; similar, but in other areas would be Morgan Hotel and Montana Hotel.

For a more standardized cheaper hotel, you might try Travel Inn.

Priceline bids work well for London. You can many times get a room for less than $100 a night ($ not &pound. We like the South Kensington area near the Gloucester Road tube stop where there are three tube lines. Look at
biddingfortravel.com to be sure you know how to bid.

Do use the hotel tab here & other resources, checking visitor reviews. I extended my stay in London and had a perfectly awful room. That was before I discovered this site and I didn't research enough!

I definitey agree w/ carolyn. For London you should consider Priceline. Check biddingfortravel.com -- you can regularly get a centrally located 4 star hotel for around $75 - $100 (plus tax)

So instead of a low end 2 star in Earls court or Paddington for £50-£100, you can get a full service 4 star for less . . . . .

Travel Lodge at the County Hall in London lists all rooms 99 pounds. It is next to the "eye" and near Westminster and Waterloo stations. You can try to find on-line. If you need to convert cash, Marks and Spencer has a decent rate and no commision. Most credit cards charge a fee of 2-3% per transaction. I am in London right now, 2 more nights to go. I am at the County Hall Marriott.

The hotel Sherm mentions is the Premier Travel Inn, not a Travel Lodge (which is an entirely different company) - in case you try a web search

Novotel London Euston (4 stars) offers a 2-night getaway including breakfast for 2 adults and 1 child under 16 for GBP 93 on weekends and GBP 109 on weekdays. It's a great hotel and visitors' reviews were pretty good. The hotel ranks within the first 100 out of almost 1000 hotels in London. I believe other Novotels in London also offers a 2-night B&B. Check the Novotel website for more info.

Check out the Alhambra Hotel near King's Crossing. It has extremely high ratings on Fodor's and TravelAdvisor. I'll be there in May.
