My husband is going to Stasbourg, France for business. I get to tag along without two small children. While in Stasbourg I will be on my own during the day, evenings with my husband. We plan on taking three-four extra days for ourselves maybe going to Germany, Austria, maybe Switzerland ???. This is my first time abroad. Rather clueless to what I need to do or COULD do to plan the trip (aside from passport & flight). We are outdoorsy people (mountain biking, hiking, running). We are simple, not expensive taste people. I would be interested in less populated, unique, historical, villages, winerys, ....kinda get the idea? I have read about Colmar and it intrigues me. I look forward to the wine road between Stasbourg and Colmar. Any additional information would be greatly appreciated to help me hone my daily destinations. Should I purshase a Eurorail pass versus the cost of simply traveling without, how much usage would justify the expense?
Thank bunches

Call me crazy, but I opened it and evidently you did, too, nukesafe, so don't be so mean... that said, it is a good idea to try it with a different title. I'd help, but I've never been to that area - sorry! Good luck with the trip, and have fun touring around on your own!

Malie,
That's a beautiful area of France. What time of year are you going? If it's soon, make sure you apply for an expedited passport because of the current delays in processing.
I would rent a car for the time when your husband is finished with his work obligations. It's a great area to drive around and visit the wineries. When you're in Strasbourg, be sure to visit the local tourist office and pick up information on the Route du Vin. If you prefer to take the train, I think you'd be better off buying point to point tickets instead of a pass. I definately prefer renting a car though, then you can go where you want and when you want.
Have a great trip!

One other thing that might help you when searching for information....it's Strasbourg...not Stasbourg. Here's a link for Route du Vin:
