First time in Europe...

Hello,

I will be spending 2 short weeks traveling Europe the last 2 weeks of March. I will be flying into Rome, makig stops in Florence, Cinque Terre, Torino, Geneva, then leaving from Paris. Any suggestions of nice places to stay in Rome, Florence and Geneva? I'd like to pay no more than $200USD a night. I have friends in the other cities. Thank you in advance for you help!!

The question is often asked and a half dozen places are cited the most in the $200 range for Rome. Search "Cesari" or (del) "Senato" ansd you will find many such threads. These are two of the most popular, though with the euro-ollar slipped, they are both in the 220+ range. Threads that mention either one will have other ideas, like due torri and others which might be a little less.

It is hard to find bargains in Geneva - - and I might argue that there are better alternative overnight destinations between Torino and Paris, like Dijon or Lyon or places in between the two.

Best wishes,

Rex

Suisse Hotel, in Geneva is well within your price range. However, if you are taking the train to Paris after that, consider staying in Lausanne, Vevey or Montreux. All are more scenic towns. In Vevey, I stayed at Hotel Negotiants. Should cost you about $120 a night (double) or $60 (single). The train leaves for Paris from Lausanne, wich is about 15 minutes by train from Vevey. Very simple connections to make.
