Finding Available Lodging in Strasbourg
Hello There!
Having difficulty finding availability for hotels in the downtown area that are somewhat affordable. We will be there 2 nights in October (5 months out). All those highly recommended by you folks are sold out. Has anyone stayed at the Diana Dauphine or Maison Rouge. Hilton??? (Would hate to do that.) Are there any B and B's or small quaint hotels that I"m not seeing? I am in a quandary. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Try this website for available hotels.
http://www.venere.com/france/strasbourg/
You can sort by location, there are reviews of each hotel, and a map showing where the hotel is located.
This is a well known international website.
Always check the hotel's website to see if you can get a better deal.

Hard to believe every hotel in Strasbourg is sold out this far in advance.
I really liked the Hotel de l'Europe in Strasbourg, it is moderately priced and available almost all of October except Oct 22-25 which are dates if plenary sessions of the European Parliament in Strasbourg, those are always a problem.

The end of October is also public school holidays in Alsace.
Not sure what affordable would be but if the Hilton is being considered, it couldn't be that cheap, I suppose. They don't really have B&Bs in French cities, that's a rural concept.

I vowed I'd never stay in a Best Western again after they really did us in the first time we went to Paris ( in recent years). When we arrived at 8:30 AM and wanted to leave our baggage they were very sorry but our room was the ONLY room in the hotel that did not have electricity that day ????? Did you ever? so they sent us to a really foul hotel instead. We had reserved 2 months ahead. No doubt they sold our room to someone else. Thus we said never again.
the Europe does have a room. Is the Traditional room OK or must we go to Superior?

ediemay - Chalk yours up to bad luck.
Actually, I like hotels affiliated with Best Western.
They are nothing like American hotels, and they retain the local flavor an charm.
The first one I went to, accidently, was a hotel in Berne. It took me 10 minutes to stop laughing once I found out after checking in.
Since then, I've been in several BW hotels, including ones in Pau and Carcasonne. They're just affiliates, not actually owned by BW. The hotel in Pau was the best in town at the time.

Hey em,
>I vowed I'd never stay in a Best Western again...<
You are aware that European Best Westerns are independent operations that subscribe to a marketing arrangement?
Just because one of them was substandard doesn't mean that all the rest are.

Best Western hotels are just independent local hotels that have the BW logo as a marketing consortium, that doesn't make any sense to say you will never stay in one in Europe again. Even in the US, that is actually true, although in the US, they tend to be more motel and small modern bland box hotels, not the older traditional city hotels you find in Europe. But even in the US, the quality varies by the property.
BW hotels in Europe are actually pretty nice, they have a lot of nicer ones. They do have some standards, of course, as to who can join, I'm sure, and I think if I didn't know where to book, using the BW network in Europe would be a pretty foolproof way to go.

ediemay:
A small hotel located right in the Cathedral square. Walk most everywhere...excellent buffet breakfast..lift. Truly the heart of the lovely city. We stayed there for a few nights before boarding a barge trip.
