Film - Avenue Montaigne

I'm wondering if this movie really shows much of Paris? One friend said that it doesn't show much of Avenue Montaigne, but what about the rest of the city? Was it even filmed in Paris? These days many films are not actually shot in the places they are supposedly set in. Thanks.

That film has gotten pretty good reviews where I've read them, so I am looking forward to seeing it, but I always like films about music and performing arts, anyway, and pianists (as I play), and most French films.

I don't think most films show a lot of a city unless they are really documentaries or travelogues, but it certainly was filmed in Paris for many parts, and had to be as that neighbood and theatre are the focus of the story, from what I've read. I love that theatre (Theatre des Champs-Elysees), and know that bar, so it should be interesting. Some scenese were already filmed in the Plaza-Athenee near the theater, but of course, some were done in a studio.

We had just returned from Paris when we saw the film and were hoping for great shots of the city. This was not the case. I would agree with your friend. Was a cute movie, but don't go expecting lots of scenes of the city.

Well, for anyone who knows Paris there will be some obvious landmarks, though the film was in large part shot right around the Café des Théatres. I actually read some horrible reviews about it, but decided to go see it anyway and was so glad I did. Cécile de France is simply luminous!

Just returned from seeing this movie, and it was an absolute delight. Funny, intelligent, moving. I'd say a MUST-SEE.

It's actually the Bar des Theatres, which is one of my favorite casual restaurants in Paris, very good French "comfort food", esp. well known for its steak tartare, friendly service, and interesting clientele mix of staff from the designer boutiques all along and around the AM, chauffeurs to the bigwigs across the street at the Plaza Athenee, fashion and interior design mag editors and Golden Triangle locals. Open 365 days a year, serving from early in the morning til late at night.

Also, I read on a few web sites where the Bar may be closing soon (part of it will become a high end shoe store), which will be a real shame. So if you want to try it, best go ASAP.
This also happened to one of our favorite cafes in Brussels, which was closed, gutted and then re-opened as the Christian Dior store.
