yesmar, I don't know how much time you have but if you can, get out of Tangier (1 day is enough there) and get to Fes and/or Meknes, or Marrakech if you can. They are all stunning. You can find cheap lodging in Tangier, actually all over, if you do just a bit of research. Try Lonely Planet or the Rough Guide (and their websites, esp. the Thorn Tree). If you are prepared for some agressive touts and 'guides' everywhere, but especially in Tangier as you come off the ferry, you will feel much more prepared. Don't feel that you have to talk to everyone, and if it really bothers you, engage a guide (decide on price and duration in advance!) and he will help keep the others at bay. I really enjoyed a day in Tangier, but many will say that it's awful. Don't give your passport to anyone who is not at an official window; there are lots of guys who will act like it's their job to take your passport to get the official stamps but the guys are not official; it will just cost you money and you won't know what's going on. Keep your eyes, ears & hands alert and remember that the touts and false guides are some of the most creative in the world when it comes to getting their own way!
