Ferry from Lipari to Naples OCt 07

I have looked on the siremar web site and there are no overnight ferries showing for early Oct 4. Does anyone know if they will be running or not. We have booked all accommodation etc on the assumption that the ferry would be running. Any suggestions for how we can back to Naples for our flight on the Friday. We were acting on info that we had seen that was for last year. Please help if you suggestions. Thanks in advance.

Hi kaz55,

The Siremar site doesn't appear to showing schedules for any service beyond the end of September, so I'd not get too worried at this point.

If the ferry service has indeed been discontinued, you would probably need to take a hydrofoil (aliscafo) or ferry (nave) to Milazzo and a train from there to Naples.

Boat schedules (there may be other operators running in October, couldn't find the scheds online though):
www.usticalines.it
http://www.ngi-spa.it/eolie/destinat...=1&idday=5

Train schedules:
http://www.ferroviedellostato.it/

You will "lose" Oct. 4 with a daytime connection, as total journey time is approx. 8.5 hours.

There is a direct night train from Milazzo to Naples if you want to maximize your time on Lipari. You would need to take the last hydrofoil at 18:45 and would arrive in Naples at 4:30 AM - ugh! You could also take any train from Milazzo to Messina, hang out there for a few hours and then get on the 23:55 night train to Naples, which arrives at a somewhat more civilized 6:18 AM.

Hope this helps,
Andre

Here's some excellent info from GAC (who also posts here quite frequently) on Slowtalk:
http://slowtalk.com/groupee/forums/a...43107717/inc/1

He describes the journey in the opposite direction, but still very useful.

Hope this helps,
Andre

There have been lots of schedule changes to the ferry and hydrofoil services between Naples and the Aeolian Islands.

Check schedules and fares at:

www.siremar.it (twice-weekly overnight ferry only)

www.snav.it (summer hydrofoil only)

www.alilauro.it (summer hydrofoil only)

Ustica Lines and Medmar Lines have both pulled out of this route.

UPDATE: Naples/Aeolian Islands Overnight Ferry to Continue into 2010

Siremar Lines has uploaded its schedules to and from (and between) the Aeolian Islands through September 2010: most ferries and hydrofoils will continue as before, INCLUDING THE TWICE WEEKLY OVERNIGHT CAR FERRY FROM NAPLES ALL THE WAY TO MILAZZO, calling at the Aeolian Islands of Stromboli, Panarea, Salina, Lipari and Vulcano.

June through September are high season, and reservations for cabins and reclining seats on the overnight ferry are STRONGLY recommended during that timeframe.

From mid-July through mid-September, it can also be useful to try to book space on some hydrofoil crossings (e.g. Naples/Aeolian Islands and Milazzo/Lipari), particularly on weekends.

Summer hydrofoils between Naples and the Aeolian Islands are operated by SNAV and Alilauro.
