I am looking into a solo trip to Croatia, Slovenia and than possibly on to Italy in September. Am trying to access looking at various tour operators. Jay Way states that they specialize in Croatia, Slovenia, Eastern Europe. The reviews on the site are positive, but not recent so trying to do my due diligence before I fork over some money. call me careful. Any feedback positive or negative would be appreciated...

Are you fully committed to working with a tour operator? Many of us have traveled to Croatia, Slovenia, and Italy on our own without difficulty.

Not heard much about this agency recently but they were accused of posting fake reviews in the past.

Thanks for the reply regarding my question on Jay Way. No, I am not committed to a tour operator, but I will be a solo traveler. Also I don't drive a stick shift car so that will leave me taking public transportation or buses. Going from Dubrovonik, north to Slovenia, and than on to Venice, Italy..
Does Rough Guide give you the best ideas regarding public transportation?

I wasn't solo in Croatia, but neither of us was comfortable with a stick, so we ordered an automatic car rental. They are more expensive, and the rental wasn't exactly as expected (find my trip report for that story), but we thought Croatia was a country where we really benefitted from having a car for some of the time. We also thought it was fabulously beautiful and interesting.
We actually found Rick Steves the best for transportation, although he was useless for some places which he didn't even mention. The Moon Guide was good.

I traveled solo by public transport in the Balkans. I used Lonely Planet "Western Balkans" supplemented by individual country guides from Bradt. However, things do change, you can't count on the infomation still being accurate, and should check on the ground - i.e. make your plans to leave somewhere the day you arrive.

There are several bus websites and some only give information on their own companies. One I like is www.akz.hr

I also traveled through the area solo using mostly public transportation. IME, the Rough Guide has the best info about transportation options throughout the area.

Does anybody know of a reputable web site where solo travelers can explore a travel companion. I don't know if this will or will not be my final decision, but at least I would like to explore it. The last time I did explore this option I made the mistake of leaving a description of myself and my e-mail address. Big mistake since I got invites from all the wrong people if you get my drift. I go solo. If I were looking for a travel companion, which I totally am not, I would not set off on a foreign trip without test-driving said companion on a long weekend in the US.

I have shared bedrooms on tours when doing so avoided the single supplement (or when no single supplement was offered) and only had one bad experience. However, I find that if I have an actual companion it distracts me from the places I came to see, not to mention opening the door to tedious discussions about where to go, what to do, and how long to do it.
