For more casual, less expensive (but very good and very Viennese) meals, try the Immervoll or Dum Betelstudent. Both are easy walking distance from Stephansdom.

We enjoyed Gosser Bierklinik. We chose it because it has a no-smoking room, and enjoyed it so much we went back the next night. Very reasonably priced (about 20E for two). It is an old brewery; very different! Its on Steindlg, only a few blocks from St. Stephens.

Spatzennest off Burgasse in the Spittleberg district. Absolutely the best traditional Viennese food at great prices.
Gasthaus Hansy near the Prater...wunderbar!

No, no, Charley. The Wonka reference was not regarding the crowns on the doors. I'm talking about what's inside - craziness. You'll just have to see for yourself.

I am intrigued by these loos! I thought you meant the waterfalls that were mentioned earlier. Oh well, I'll find out in around 4 months time!

Sounds like the loo is more interesting than the food!
I'll ask around before committing on my visit next month. Vienna is not known to be short of great food, and at least a loo on the side!
