The cathedral is about ten minutes walk from the station, up a gentle hill.
The hardest part is getting across the station forecourt since it seems stupid to walk around rather than across. Wrong. Lots of traffic, taxis etc make it easier to be patient and walk around.
Be sure to see the WW II memorial in the town square near the foot of the hill. It brings the War down to a local, human level and is among the most moving I have seen.

TDude, I don't recall whether or not I ever ate at Petit Verdot. My favorite recollections about the Ferrandi are the charming ladies who ran the place and the whole ambience of the hotel -- it fit in perfectly with the rue du Cherche-Midi and the latter's wonderful little bookshops and tea rooms.
Ackislander, thanks for the reminder about Chartres -- I expect to head there on day trip this spring.

Thanks, ducinalturn. I agree about Chartres. We were there on a market day and hadn’t allowed enough time for much exploration. It’s like Pisa—so much more than the leaning tower. Thanks for the Miller link. You were indeed lucky to get to the closed crypt.
Thanks also Ackislander and DonTopaz.
And Whathello, that light show is hypnotically and frighteningly cool. The eyes on the bridge, the gymnasts in motion. WOW.
