Favorite European City

Venice, without a doubt. It's such a wildly improbable, romantic, decadent, utterly unique city that I can't believe anyplace else could ever capture my imagination in quite the same way. I love Paris and London, but I'm wildly *in love* with Venice, if the distinction makes any sense.
(And I've been rereading Jan Morris this week and pondering whether it's time for a return trip...)

1.) Paris---not sure if it's because it was the last place i went or not but i don't think so. it was very special and i constantly dream about going back.
2.) London----definately high on the list.
other than these two i have only been to nice and hamburg. both okay but if i never go back i won't feel like i've deprived myself.
next month i have a trip planned to rome and i am very excited about it. when i first started traveling to europe about 5 years ago i had london, paris & rome as the "have to do" cities. the others got in there because someone said "do you want to go"--a question to which i always answer yes and then ask where to. (not to sound like i didn't enjoy them because i did). this summer however while i have been planning my trip to rome i have been thinking---what do i dream about next---this post has made my decision i think. prague is my next city to dream about going to.

This is fun and, yes, I'll use others opinions to plan future trips.
For now, my choices, and why, are:
Lisbon - probably because it was the first city I was in on my first trip to Europe. It was lovely and I felt perfectly safe.
Seville - because I had absolutely the most fun there, having lunch with my family at a sidewalk cafe within the courtyard of Old Town, drinking wine, eating paella, drinking wine, listening to free-lance musicians, and drinking wine. I've never laughed so hard and I have a photo to prove it and to remind myself of how hard I can actually laugh. After lunch, in broken Spanish, we talked a horse and carriage driver into taking us to our hotel on the far side of town.
Strassbourg - because after all the rumors I'd heard about unfriendly French, the people here went out of their way to be helpful. We had the very best meal in all of Europe here at the au Dauphin restaurant - Baker's Stew. I regret not asking for the recipe.
Rothenburg and Rudesheim (a tie) - because they are both so absolutely adorable. The only thing I'd change would be the musical group in Rudesheim who, after recognizing us as Americans, stopped singing German songs (which we loved) and sang American songs in German.
Lucerne - because the food was delicious and the people friendly and the city so beautiful.
Interlaken - not sure this town qualifies as a city, but my husband and I both felt we could have spent a week there.
Now, to plan a trip to Copenhagen, Venice, Rome, Florence, and all those cities mentioned that we've never been to. I love Europe!

#1 Amsterdam. It was the first major European city I had ever been too and it will always be closest to my heart.
#2 Helsinki. I just the culture, the shopping and the people of Finland.
#3. Gdansk, Poland. I can remember walking up this city center street at night and just thinking how incredibly beautiful the place was - very Enjoyable!
Love the topic!

Outside my own country:
Dublin, Galway and Belfast, I haven't enjoyed quite often so much.
Edinburgh and Glasgow more or less the same, and Cardiff and the small Penzance, too.
On the mainland, Brussel could be one of them, great night-life, if travelling with someone who knows the city, better than Amsterdam.
And I must give my own cities, where great festival, 24 h/day for 7-9 days begin right now: 6th-13th July Iruņea (Pamplona), more or less days around 5th August Gasteiz and Baiona (Bayonne), next weekend till the next week's Sunday Donostia, and last -but no least- Bilbao's Great Week (19-27th August). Then smaller towns: Lesaka, Donibane-Garazi, Lekeitio, Zarautz, Otxandio... great towns in the Basque Country, really beautiful!!!
