My favorite European city is Verona in northern Italy. It is so clean and the town people dress so nice. The shop keepers are out cleaning the fronts of their shops and sweeping the side walk. So different from the rest of Italy where they just throw everything out in the street. Even our bus driver would throw his trash out the bus window. London has to be my second favorite because there is so much history there and its so easy and cheap to get around on the tube. Happy travels, Bobby G.

As many have mentioned, it depends on what you're looking for. Brugge is a wonderful, quaint city, as is Rothenburg; Salzburg would be my favorite medium city and Venice and Munich would be tied for my favorite large city.

It is a very difficult thing to pick a favorite. Each city has it's own wonderful, magical, quality. A few favorites though would have to be:

Paris..one of the best walking cities, great sidewalk cafes, beautiful.
Stockholm..again, great for walking, wonderful scenery, fantastic 'old town' area.
Rome..the history alone rates it up there.
Venice..everything I hoped it would be.
As for that special, out of the way place, far from the crowds..Seefeld, Austria. Just up the mountain from Innsbrook, it is like stepping back in time. Besides great skiing, sledding, and ice skating, there are quaint shops and restaurants.

Hi,

The UK newspapers The Guardian and The Observer recently did a poll of their readers for their annual travel awards.
For favourite worldwide city, the top 20 were:

1 Chicago
2 Sydney
3 Perth
4 Vancouver
5 Venice
6 New York
7 Las Vegas
8 Havana
9 Prague
10 Melbourne
11 San Francisco
12 Barcelona
13 Auckland
14 Stockholm
15 Cape Town
16 Boston
17 Verona
18 Toronto
19 Copenhagen
20 Seville

The European countries voted favourites were:

1 Czech Republic
2 Finland
3 Norway
4 Italy
5 Switzerland
6 Denmark
7 Austria
8 Republic of Ireland
9 Sweden
10 The Netherlands

Thought the above might be of interest -the reason for the Czech Republic getting the most votes for favourite European country will have had a lot to do with the popularity of Prague as a city destination - and a fine city it is too! Copenhagen is another great European city, as are Paris, Edinburgh and several others!

Mark.

Mark Southgate.
www.OneClickTravel.com
=======================

Mark, do you have any opinions as to why Paris and France were not on those lists? I found that interesting.

What a weird list! I have never been to Chicago, and I am sure it is a nice city, but #1 on the list for UK visitors? Paris, Rome, Barcelona, Venice, Prague, Amsterdam, New York I would have believed, but Chicago, Perth, Havana all in top-10 positions?
The countries' list is equally weird: the two most popular countries for visitors from the UK (France and Spain) are missing!

Yes, the omission of France and Spain is very odd! Both wonderful countries and as you say both very popular with Brits! Maybe people are looking for more 'off the beaten track' destinations.

To see the full survey results, cut and paste the following url:
http://www.guardianunlimited.co.uk/t...343347,00.html

Mark.

Mark Southgate.
http://www.OneClickTravel.com
==============================

This is the hardest question of all. It's a toss up between Paris and Venice. Both have mystery, art and beauty, but Venice seems a little more manageable to explore completely. And those Venetian artists, those humanists who put some reality in Mary's expression when visited by the angel Gabriel, they changed everything and I want to follow them through Italy.

Dresden! This heartwarming city is just like a beautifull bird kept captive for 50 years, then let go free! This city has so much history, and the people are so happy to have you visit. If you go, definitely the place to stay is the Art'otel.

I personally really like Berlin, but I think I may be in the minority there.
