Father/daughter fling driving around Portugal
Hi everyone,
The 5th annual father daughter fling will be in Portugal! We will be flying into Porto on December 8th and will spend 12 days doing whatever makes us happy. Eating, drinking and checking out the architecture are at the top of our list. Then eating and drinking again! He he! I am in charge of the drive from Porto to Lisbon but I am the type of person that likes the road less traveled. (Dad is starting to learn and loves to travel with me because I am a extrovert that connects with amazing people anywhere I go!)So anyone that has any stories to share, places you can't miss or food that is to die for please do not hesitate to post.(Hi Lobo, I feel like I know you from all your writings! I would really love to hear from you!!!!) I have this feeling that the Douro Valley would be an awesome drive, (dad used to own a vineyard) stay at a Quinta perhaps, Pinhao, and what about Evora with the petroglyphs...? From my readings I could spend months enjoying the countryside. Oh anyone know any info on the LDC? (again Lobo ) Now that would be a real highlight of the trip. Will be in Lisbon on the 16th or so.Thanks global friends and look forward to your responses.

I enjoyed the best Roast suckling Pig (leitao) anywhere at a Truck Stop along the old road from Porto to Lisbon in a region called Mealhada (mi al yada).
The Porto-Lisbon corridor is OK but you might also consider a daytrip Porto-Guimaraes (sp?), birthplace of modern Portugal. You may even encounter some Celtic villages along the way ...

Thank you nedsireland for your response. The Lisbon/Porto coastal drive would be beautiful but I think I want to go east to see the vineyards and then south maybe through Evora. The roast suckling pig sounds amazing and I have read there is a wonderful pottery shop close to there so I might have to stray from the direct path south. That is what I love about traveling, taking things as they come! Another big shout out to Lobo! Thanks for your posts and it would be great to share a glass of port and a story or two while in Lisbon! Any "must haves" from the US? There is a lot of room in the suitcase since I want to bring back lots of liquid goodies!

sounds like you will find and have fun wherever you decide to go in Portugal. May I suggest going east to the Marvao area, perhaps stay at the scenic pousada therein...then head south to Evora and Arraiolos which we did this past May.
Here are Portugal pics which may give you an idea or two. Don't neglect Lisbon, a truly welcoming city...same for a visit to Sintra and the coastal scenery around Cabo da Roca...around Obidos, take in Nazare'....

A correction: Photoworks must have changed its site, because the pictures cannot be viewed by using the URL in the narration. Here are the correct URLs.

I understand your dilemma re: posting pics...I finally settled on Google's Picasa and I have had happy results...see my Porugal pix a few posts above. They are easy to use, editing function is superb and again, simple...as you can see, you can establish "albums" and post them. I've even scanned hundreds of pre-digital pix and edited them where they appear far better than the original.
Good luck..(write if you wish, and I'd be happy to demonstrate a few other albums and individual pix..There is no intitial charge for Picasa...howvere, I have so many pix on there I just bought 10 GB extra storage for just $20 for a year)

I love you guys and dolls! Here are the 3 apts I have to choose from in Lisbon. Dad is 63 and pretty fit, loves to walk, eat and drink. I could sleep peacefully on the sidewalk with Fado in the background next to the tram line, nothing bothers me and my beauty sleep! I picked 3 different parts of the city so tell me what you think! Thank you so much for your valued opinion!
