Thank-you for this wonderfully detailed trip report. I am seriously considering a visit to the Lofoten Islands for the summer. We spent 2 awesome weeks driving around Norway 10 years ago. On that visit we didn't go to the Lofotens because I had read it is fogged in often and smells badly of fish. (It seems as if you did not encounter or hear of this)
I am from the mid-Atlantic east Coast and also enjoy finding places that are not miserably hot and humid and I love mountains and water views.
