Family-Friendly Restaurants in Edinburgh
Our trip to Scotland is getting closer and I thought I'd ask for your suggestions regarding family-friendly restaurants in Edinburgh. We will be there 2 nights and are traveling with our 3-year-old daughter who, while generally well-mannered, can be, shall we say, a bit exuberant in a restaurant setting. We do love good food, and will hopefully not have to completely sacrifice quality for an appropriate atmosphere. We will be staying at the Apex Waterloo Place (east end of Princes Street), so restaurants within a reasonable walking distance of that location would be ideal. Thanks!

Haven't taken any little ones to a restaurant - hopefully caroline_edinburgh, sheila or one of the other locals will have ideas in the (their) morning.
There is a Hard Rock not far and an Italian (can't remember the name) in Hanover Street just off Princes Street. And of course for quick meals there are several place in the mall next to the station.

Thanks janis, I figured I posted a little too late for the locals and will top again tomorrow. It is a bit daunting to approach a trip like this with a small child for the first time...puts a very different spin on things!

We just got back from Edinburgh -- click on my name for my trip report. Though our kids are a few years older, I didn't think any of the places would have been too much for a younger child. We particularly liked Whiski's and The Doric. Each had children's menus so that's an invitation in my book.
You may want to plan to eat earlier in some because they limit kids after 8 or 8:30 (and those that are out for a quiet night probably eat later as well).
Pizza Express would be another nice option. It's gourmet pizza, but not that express/fast (kids love the dough balls too)! I didn't try the one in Edinburgh though.
Sorry, don't know the location well enough to know how far away these are.

Try Vittoria in Leith Walk- and Valvona and Crolla just up the road.
The Hub at the top of the Mile; Brown's in George Street; Hard Rock Cafe in George Street;Mamma's in the Grassmarket; Tex Mex n Thistle Street.
There used to be a place, the name of which escapes me, but the theme was (friendly ) American Gangsters which focussed on kids.
The List says all of these are child friendly

I don't think there is any such thing as a family friendly restaurant,I always find going to a restaurant stressful but maybe that's because of my four year old boy rather than the restaurant! What iv started doing now is ordering food and delivering it to a park or hotel, here is a list of takeaways in Edinburgh.

if you pay online they don't mind the strange request of park delivery
