I am overwhelmed with all the ideas out there for a first-time visitor to UK. We like to travel to one spot for a couple days then move on. I need some suggestions for where to go stay and then take day trips. We are interested in Cotswolds and want to see some spectacular views of cliffs. We really only want to do London briefly. Not into big cities and lotsa people.

Cotswolds is a nice spot. we stayed in Chipping Campden, which is quite picturesque. Many other small towns are great too. You will need a car though. We enjoyed Oxford, including Blenheim & Bladon, a lot. We did not enjoy Dover (cliffs) all that much, though the Castle is worth the time. We enjoyed the one day we spent in Bath, but didn't need any more. Other thoughts would be Warwick, which is not far from the Cotswolds. I've heard good things about York and the Lake District, But haven't been there.

Cotswolds can take a few days if you want to see more than a sampling of it. Might move on to Wales or go up to Edinburgh... it's a larger city but worth a look on your way to the Scottish countryside.

How about a trip down to Kent. You could take in the famous gardens such as Sissinghurst and Great Dixter, plus historic castles such as Bodiam and Hever. Also Canterbury -and then see the White Cliffs at St Margarets Bay near Dover. I can recommend Church Gates Bed and Breakfast in Cranbrook, which is close to Sissinghurst .

Im not a big Cotswolds fan, so assuming you find a place to stay there for a couple of days, move on to Wales and the western coast. The drive from St Davids to Aberystwyth is spectacular. Roam around nortwestern Wales and then head for the Lake District.<BR><BR>Very dramatic scenery.

i am a big cotswold fan and continue to return there frequently...the lanes and small towns are lovely...we have spent many days there over the years...we have a detailed cotswold map and scoot from one village to the next...each is different....it is a fairly large area if you see it as a whole...from its northeast corner you can head to the area referred as the &quot;potteries&quot; where much of the english china of today and yesterday is made---great bargain shopping...wedgewood at barlston and stoke on trent is headquarters to many with many, many outlets...<BR>check out the maggie white sweaters on the main street of burford, cotswolds...

This type of request is much easier to answer if you note how you intend to travel and what your interests are (scenery, castles, cathedrals, museums, dance halls). It would also be helpful to know from which airport you will be flying. And what is &quot;London briefly&quot; - 3,4 days? <BR><BR>You'll get much better suggestions if you'll give more information.<BR><BR>Assuming you mean sea cliffs, the most awesome of the white cliffs are those at Beachy Head between Eastbourne and Brighton but they are probably difficult without a car which is why most people seem to settle for Dover. <BR><BR>Give us a hint.

Go back in time and visit the Isle of Wight just off the south coast 30 min ferry trip, great scenery and no cities.
