Fake police scam in Budapest

We were walking away from the Teleki train station when someone flashed an ID with a "police" badge asking for our passports has to see our cash to make sure that it was not counterfeit. I immediately asked to go to the police station. Had to do it twice, and after that he "let us go."

That's been going on a very long time in many cities, unfortunately. Glad you didn't fall for it.

Thanks for the heads up, Michael. Just wondering, was the exchange in English?

His English was not very good, which is why I had to repeat the request to go to the police station twice.
